The 2023 Ottawa Indigenous Fashion Week
The Ottawa Indigenous Fashion Week kicks off June 29th and will wrap on July 5th, with an extra bonus screening and extended runway show.
The week’s activities will include a lecture and panel discussions that will explore the history of the Indigenous fashion industry, intellectual property, and the connection between fast fashion and environmental degradation. A speakers series will also be held in partnership with academia, fashion designers, rural and remote entrepreneurs and otherwise creative small business owners.
A discussion on the importance of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals will also be emphasized in order to address the challenges brought about by climate change. The connection of these initiatives will then be tied into the multi-trillion-dollar fashion industry.
By the year 2050, it is estimated that the global population will likely reach 9 billion. With these numbers in mind, this year’s 2023 Ottawa Indigenous Fashion Week will also explore what this means for fashion, small businesses in Canada, innovation and Indigenous entrepreneurship.
Sewing, up-cycling, Metis finger weaving and a beading workshop will also take place in partnership with local NGOs. And a virtual screening will also be held on July 5th at 7:00 pm.
We look forward to seeing you all at the events. Please DM us if you have questions, or need assistance with accessing our programming.
