I’m Nic Gagliardi (she/they), your go-to nonprofit governance nerd with 18 years of experience transforming strategy, creating impact, and building capacity within the non-profit sector. I was 20 years old when I chaired my first board – and it’s fair to say I had no idea what I was doing! Since then I’ve gained a lot of experience, asked a lot of questions, and made it my mission to really, truly understand nonprofit governance. I have been a committee member, a board member, a nonprofit staffer and an ED. And all along the way, I kept running into the same core issues again and again — with the same sub-par solutions. I started to wonder . . . if so many organizations are struggling with crappy nonprofit governance . . . why don’t we try a different approach? In my work as a governance consultant, I challenge the embedded assumptions that keep organizations stuck, and I build practical and effective approaches that address our sector’s tired core issues. I believe in balancing hard and soft skills, making room for creativity, and creating spaces where we can work seriously without taking ourselves too seriously.
