National Capital FreeNet
About Organization
National Capital FreeNet (NCF) is an internet provider committed to digital equity. We believe that everyone in Canada’s National Capital Region has a right to affordable and high-quality internet that they can understand how to use, while feeling safe online.
NCF has connected more than 100,000 members since we were founded in 1992. As a not-for-profit social enterprise, we invest in bandwidth and community services, keeping prices as low as we can while staying sustainable.
We currently serve more than 4500 members. We sell high speed internet up to 1024 Mbps speed with unlimited usage, offer ad-free locally-hosted email, basic web hosting, skills workshops, and more. We have an award-winning HelpDesk of staff and volunteers to help our members with a range of internet and computer-related issues.
In 2017 NCF launched our Community Access Fund, including a low-cost unlimited usage internet package for Ottawa Community Housing tenants. In 2024 we are building a free Community WiFi Network serving Vanier, Overbrook and parts of Lowertown and Sandy Hill, with support from CIRA and in partnership with Ottawa Community Housing and Hiboo Networks.
