Effective visual communication is a crucial part of the work for many professionals in the non-profit sector, but these tasks often fall to staff members with limited time, resources, or graphic design experience. This hands-on workshop will focus on leveraging an accessible and powerful tool (Canva) to create engaging visual assets as a part of your organization’s communication plan. Learners will engage with the foundational principles of good visual communication and will learn how to create templates, web assets, and print assets using their Canva account.
Learners will be requested to sign up for a free Canva account before the course, if they do not already have access to one. The principles explored in this workshop can be applied to any graphic design program.

  • Learn about graphic design principles such as layouts, colours, templates, and fonts and how these elements work together to send a message
  • Be introduced to using brand guidelines and templates to streamline production of graphic design assets (graphics for web, social media posts, et cetera)
