A staff member accused of theft, facility-wide food poisoning, the death of a client, or a flu outbreak. Every organization is vulnerable to a reputational crisis. More so when you support vulnerable people. It’s in the news every day. When crisis occurs, people want information. There are dos and don’ts to communicating internally with staff and stakeholders and externally with media. This workshop will help you plan for public relations during a crisis and put in place the steps to follow in order to manage your message during such a difficult time.

 

Learning Objectives

Learners participating in this workshop will:

  • Become familiar with the key principles and strategies of crisis communication.
  • Be introduced to ways for creating effective crisis management plans for their organizations.
  • Be presented with real-world scenarios that will equip them for future application of the principles and strategies of crisis communication.

Who should attend?

  • Executive directors, board chairpersons or other members of leadership teams.
  • Communications managers or staff.
  • Not-for-profit paid staff (generalist and specialist) and volunteer staff working in communication.

About your facilitator

This two-hour workshop will be led by Heather Badenoch. Heather believes in the power of non-profit and purpose-driven organizations to lead meaningful change—for people, animals, our community and our environment. As the owner and communications strategist at Village PR she has spent more than 20 years advising health, disability, food security, community and environmental clients. From strategic communications planning to media training, Heather works creatively and candidly with her clients to accomplish their goals.
