What is the change you are trying to create through your programs? How do you understand that change will occur? What will you work on directly through your program? Where will you need support from others? How will you evaluate your progress?

Theory of change is a road map that clearly shows the destination you want to reach, and the journey that will take you there. Some of the most effective programs are based on a strong theory of change, and this is an indispensable tool for planning and evaluating programs. In this workshop we will discuss: What is theory of change and what is its role in program planning and evaluation?  We will also approach thinking in terms of outcomes, and using the theory of change with your organization and program partners.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this workshop, participants will:

  • Be able to describe a theory of change and identify when it is appropriate to use it.
  • Understand what an outcome is, and the similarities and differences between a theory of change and a logic model.
  • Confidently use a theory of change to design or evaluate a program.
  • Apply a theory of change to effectively communicate what your program is about.
