Volunteer Ottawa is proud to partner with CLEO (Community Legal Education Ontario) to offer this session on the Ontario Non-Profit Corporations Act (ONCA).
Ontario’s Not-for-profit Corporations Act was proclaimed on October 19th, 2021. Nonprofits have until October 18th, 2024 to update their bylaws and letters patent to comply with ONCA. Organized by CLEO staff lawyer Benjamin Miller, and with the participation of University of Ottawa Law students, this session is aimed at helping organizations incorporated under the Ontario’s Corporations Act or a special Act transition to the ONCA.

Wednesday, January 11th 2023, from 9 to 11 am. This session will be conducted live online through the Zoom platform.
Learning goals
Participants in this session will:
- Gain insights into what is new in the ONCA framework
- Learn which steps their organizations need to take to transition to be ONCA complaint
- Become familiar with how CLEO’s free resources can help organizations create ONCA compliant bylaws from scratch or adapt their current bylaws
Who should attend?
The contents of this session will be of relevance to:
- Members of the leadership teams of organizations incorporated under Ontario’s Corporations Act or a special Act
- Board members of organizations incorporated under Ontario’s Corporations Act or a special Act
What is required to participate?
This session is free but requires pre-registration to participate. Please click the “Join Now” button and continue to check out to register. The session will be carried out over the Zoom platform and thus requires a Zoom capable device. Participants will receive a link upon registration and subsequent reminders.
Who should not attend?
The contents of this session will not apply to the following cases:
- Organizations that are not themselves incorporated but part of a larger organization or government
- Organizations incorporated under Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act
- Organizations incorporated under Co-operative Corporations Act, other statutes outside of Ontario
