Volunteers who are well-trained and who understand the organizational context of their role will be more effective and will have more reason to continue volunteering. This workshop will explore orientation and training, and how each fits in with volunteer onboarding. You will come away with strategies to develop orientation and training practices at your organization which are based on current research in adult learning and best practices in the field of volunteer management.

Staff leading volunteers, volunteers leading other volunteers, and generalist staff working with volunteers.
What to bring?

Learning outcomes
During this workshop, participants will develop elements they can incorporate into their own Volunteer Handbooks.
About your facilitator
This workshop is led by Laura Lafantaisie, Volunteer Coordinator for Hospice Care Ottawa(HCO) based out of the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice in Kanata. Laura has been managing volunteers for the last 22 years including at HCO, Canadian Cancer Society and CPAWS. She believe that working with volunteers is the best job in the world. Laura credits the hundreds of volunteers she has had the pleasure of getting to know for making her the person and the leader she is today.
