Public speaking is a key part of work at not-for-profits. Team meetings, when recruiting new volunteers, or pitching a program to a potential donor, are some examples of how public speaking is used everyday the NFP workplace. In this workshop, Alex Keenan will transform the way participants approach public speaking, taking the ‘ick’ out of speaking in public or allowing participants to sharpen their communication skills.


Learning outcomes

  • Become more confident and comfortable with public speaking
  • Learn how to write engaging presentations
  • Learn the highest-impact actions for becoming a more memorable speaker, whether in-person or online

  • EDs and members of leadership teams who recurrently lead presentations or meetings
  • NFP professionals and staff who routinely deliver reports, presentations, or engage with stakeholders
  • Volunteers looking to improve their public communications skills

Alex Keenan works with organizations, professionals and change-makers who recognize that public speaking is a crucial tool for their success.
Drawing from her background in law, comedy, business and nonprofit governance, and with a deep understanding of how to bridge gaps between people, Alex helps her clients speak confidently, find the right words, and radiate a presence that is powerfully authentic. Her workshops are known for being fun, creative, and full of practical advice – to take the “ick” out of public speaking, once and for all.

As part of Volunteer Ottawa’s efforts to support recovery in the not-for-profit sector, this workshop will be offered for free to VO members. Cancellation Policy

There is a course minimum of 3 registrants.

An email confirming this registration will be sent to the primary email address for your member account, or the email address on this form if you are a non-member. Your registration is transferrable to anyone else within your organization. The following workshop registrations are non-refundable: (a) purchased at a discounted rate, (b) purchased using a voucher, or (c) cancellation received less than five (5) business days prior to the event. Any other cancellation is refundable, subject to a $10.00 administration fee.
