A good supervisor creates a safe environment for volunteers to learn and develop, to grow with their role in knowledge, motivation, and autonomy. Effective supervision is a mix of supporting growth, providing appropriate praise, creating a culture of excellence and accountability, and reinforcing relationships with all team members. Join us for this session exploring how your management can lead to their success.

Learning outcomes

Participants in this session will

• Gain a foundational understanding of the elements leading to a supportive environment for volunteer development.
• Be introduced to techniques for effective volunteer supervision and feedback.
• Explore ways to build stronger team relationships and improve volunteer management.

Staff leading volunteers, volunteers leading other volunteers, and generalist staff working with volunteers.

This workshop will be hosted live online over the Zoom platform; learners should join this session from a Zoom-capable device and be able to participate through oral or written interventions. About your facilitator

Our facilitator will be Nikkie Snagg, the membership and volunteer coordinator at the Good Companions Seniors Centre. Trained as a Community Service Worker, Nikkie has over 8 years of experience in Ottawa’s social sector, working with volunteers and clients in need. We thank Nikkie for leading this learning opportunity for VO members.
