Acting Treasurer at Foodsharing Ottawa
Description
Are you passionate about making a positive impact in your community? Do you have experience in accounting or bookkeeping? If so, we invite you to apply to Foodsharing Ottawa (FSO), the non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing and distributing surplus food to those in need.
About us:
FSO is a grassroots non-profit dedicated to reducing food waste and addressing food insecurity in our community since 2015. Through partnerships with local businesses, farms, and food retailers, we rescue surplus food and distribute it to community partners, such as shelters, food banks and community groups. Our mission is to reduce the amount of food that gets thrown away locally by providing and promoting alternative uses.
Position description:
As a part of FSO’s strategic plan, we are recruiting a board member in the role of acting Treasurer to help us continue our journey in food rescue and reducing food waste.
As acting Treasurer, you will:
– Oversee the organization’s budget
– Prepare financial reports for the Board’s monthly meetings
– Keep track of donations
– Ensure all memberships and insurance policies are up to date
– Help the accountant with year-end tax filing
– Attend monthly meetings (at least nine a year)
– Maintain current knowledge of the organization, its programs, bylaws and articles of incorporation
The acting Treasurer will be responsible for Quickbooks and be accountable for recruiting and overseeing a team of up to two volunteer bookkeepers, providing them with all necessary receipts and bank statements to ensure that the accounting is accurate, up-to-date and complete for every month end.
When the acting role is complete, you will remain an active board member and be eligible to apply to other roles within the Board as they become available (secretary, vice-chair, chair, treasurer, etc.).
How to Apply:
If you would like to support our mission, we encourage you to apply by sending your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your interest and relevant experience to [email protected] prior to June 28. Please include “Acting Treasurer Application” in the subject line.
