Description

During the month of August, CPAWS Ottawa Valley hosts an annual artists residency and retreat along the shores of Quebec’s Dumoine River. A diverse group of artists from across the region, representing various media and forms of expression, create artwork designed to not only raise funds to support the conservation mission of CPAWS Ottawa Valley, but more importantly to raise awareness of the importance of protecting rich natural areas like the Dumoine River before they are lost to development. While we have a few events planned where the artwork will be on display in January and May of 2023, we are hoping to secure a gallery or equivalent space to display the works in November 2022 and again in later winter or early spring. The role of the volunteer will be to identify potential locations in Ottawa-Gatineau where approximately 30 to 40 pieces of art could be displayed for at least a month, this could include galleries, but also retail space or other venues with high traffic, provided sales are possible. Once potential venues have been identified, the volunteer would then be asked to reach out to these locations to determine availability and help coordinate booking the space.

How will this opportunity benefit the volunteer?
This is a great opportunity for a volunteer interested in the arts, conservation and community engagement. It will also provide a volunteer with the opportunity to meet a diverse group of artists and gain volunteer experience for a CV, we would be pleased to provide a reference.
How will the organization benefit?
The organization will benefit in many ways, the purpose of the retreat is to raise awareness and funds for CPAWS Ottawa Valley through the display and sale of artwork. As a small organization, we have limited capacity to research venues and coordinate exhibitions beyond the two currently booked for January and May of 2023. We are thus missing the opportunity to have the artwork out in the community, finding a display space for the month of November, in the lead-up to the Holidays would be hugely beneficial to us.
Volunteer location:
Virtual volunteering, no need to come to the organization's office.
