Description

As a part of Foodsharing Ottawa’s strategic plan, we are recruiting a Board Member – Treasurer to help us continue our journey in food rescue and reducing food waste.

As a Treasurer, you will oversee the organization’s budget, prepare financial reports for the Board’s monthly meetings, keep track of donations, ensure all memberships and insurance policies are up to date and help the accountant with year end tax filing. The treasurer also oversees a team of 2 volunteer bookkeepers and provides them with all necessary receipts and bank statements to ensure that the accounting is accurate, up-to-date and complete for every month end.

As a Board Member, you are required to attend monthly meetings (at least 9 a year); maintain current knowledge of the organization, its programs, bylaws and articles of incorporation.

About you: You are passionate about food wastage, the environment and food insecurity. Ideally you have a background in Accounting, bookkeeping and/or have worked as an accountant or treasurer in a non profit organization. You are not afraid of learning new things and above all, you are able to lead and inspire others towards a shared goal and vision.

How will this opportunity benefit the volunteer?
- You will be part of a greater movement to save food. For most businesses it's easier to throw it in the trash then to coordinate getting it to someone who would be happy to use it. That's what we do! - Did you know that 1/2 of the food in Canada is wasted? - Feed the hungry. - Be introduced to the city's gems of companies and charities. - Learn new skills - Gain leadership experience
How will the organization benefit?
With this position, we want to ensure that the fiscal health of the organization is monitored and maintained and advance fiscal literacy of board members. When the organization is financially stable, we can ensure that the organization can focus on its core function which is to redirect more food so it lands on people's plates instead of the bin.
