Bring the fun back to an 80s music lover
Description
Darren (aged 53) loves listening to music from the 80s or 60s. He is eager to spend time with a volunteer that could take him out in the community to get some fresh air, go shopping at the mall, watch a movie or a play, or even for a meal at a restaurant. He also enjoys going to hockey games.
Darren is visually impaired and has paralysis on his left side from a traumatic brain injury. He would need practical supports at times, such as helping with his food/drinks, and getting his personal items for him. He has no immediate family nearby and does not appear to have anyone that visits him on a regular basis. Becoming a friend to Darren means bringing the fun back in his life, having him engage in activities in the community, with a companion he can have a significant connection with outside of the long-term care facility.
You need to be over the age of 18 for this volunteer role.
How will this opportunity benefit the volunteer?
When you volunteer, you are making a profound impact by reducing loneliness and isolation, increasing self-confidence, and improving the overall mental and physical health of people with disabilities in the community.
How will the organization benefit?
Join our team of more than 250 volunteers or Allies who are enriching the lives of people with disabilities in the community. ABLE2’s Matching Program team pairs volunteers with individuals with disabilities who share the same interests and activities, so that matches develop a meaningful, new friendship. Volunteering will change the life of a person living with disability, and as many of our volunteers have experienced, will change your life too.
