Description
Options Bytown is looking for a compassionate individual to volunteer their time providing Cantonese translation services to one of our long term Supportive Housing tenants. This tenant is an older Vietnamese individual who does not speak English and therefore has a hard time accessing services. The tenant is incredibly kind and usually sticks to themselves and would appreciate having someone to talk to in Cantonese for both social outings and to access services.
How will this opportunity benefit the volunteer?
This opportunity would give someone the opportunity to give back to the Vietnamese community by assisting an elder with community integration as well as accessing services. The commitment is flexible and can be weekly, bi-weekly or even monthly.
How will the organization benefit?
Clients benefit enormously from the sense of belonging they feel from being a part of a positive relationship. By supporting tenants in learning different languages it can help to reduce loneliness and isolation, which in turn promotes resiliency and housing stability. A sense of belonging and increasing the connections a client has to their community is also proven to sustain housing.
