Choir Director
Description
The Sunset Singers is a vibrant community choir of approximately 15 seniors (60+) who gather weekly to sing together in a supportive, inclusive environment. We entertain other seniors at retirement homes approximately 4 times per year. The director is needed to lead us in rehearsals and at performances. This would consist of finding a suitable key for each piece of music, and maintaining a suitable tempo. We perform a wide range of music genres, with our main focus being on well known pop songs from the 1950’s on.
Good organization skills will be needed to prepare our concert programming and superior communications skills will be needed to ensure choir members are current with any revisions to the lyrics of each song. We do not expect the director to have a degree in music, simply a desire to share the passion for music with other members and the community. For more about our choir, please visit our website at www.sunsetsingers.org and Facebook: Ottawa Sunset Singers. Previous experience in a similar role would be an asset, as would the ability to play piano. A piano is available to use at the church.
How will this opportunity benefit the volunteer?
The primary benefit is one of health and social engagement, including the opportunity to interact with seniors from diverse backgrounds, and with wide-ranging experiences of life. For those seeking eventual employment, it would be useful adding this experience, and skills learned, to one's resume.
How will the organization benefit?
The leadership provided will allow our members focus on learning a wider repertoire of songs, including harmony, and allow us to deliver polished performances at concerts.
