Communications team member (3 positions)
Description
Foodsharing Ottawa (FSO) has been rescuing food in Canada’s capital since 2015. Our vision is that “All food is valued and never goes to waste in our community”. We are also passionate about supporting fairer, more sustainable ways of distributing, using and disposing of food. We are looking for people who are motivated and share this passion to join our Communications team.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for individuals to help FSO create communications products and content that we can use for volunteer onboarding and social media posts. Specifically, we are looking for those interested in communications/marketing, researching and writing content related to food waste and/or food rescue operations, designing, scripting, and shooting videos to tell a story. We would also be interested in someone who is familiar with tracking and analyzing social media stats. We value the following:
Attributes:
available to commit to volunteering for at least 6 months
creative, excellent communication skills
attention to detail, organized
excellent interpersonal skills, team player
Responsibilities
As a member of the Communications team, you will have a chance to generate material that can help others understand the process and value of reducing food waste. You will have the opportunity to work with other teams (e.g. food rescue, outreach, community fridge project) to support their engagements with the public.
If you would like to make a positive impact in your community and reduce food waste, this may be for you. We look forward to hearing from you! Although not mandatory, providing a covering letter and/or CV will allow us to know a little more about you and why you would like to join our team.
How will this opportunity benefit the volunteer?
You will be part of a greater movement to reduce food waste. (Did you know that ½ of the food in Canada is wasted?)
You will have an opportunity to meet new people in the community
You will have an opportunity to learn new skills
You will have an opportunity to gain leadership experience
How will the organization benefit?
FSO will be able to continue to grow by increasing the diversity of skills of the team and increasing its presence in the community
FSO will be able to establish a sustainable program which provides an alternative for sharing food with those who can use it, instead of letting it go to waste.
