Description

Are you looking for a satisfying volunteer role with a local charitable organization that supports those who need access to healthy food and advocates on their behalf for systemic equity and poverty reduction?
We are a community food bank in Ottawa, and our serving area includes the West Centretown, Somerset and Preston Street neighbourhoods. Our operation is located at Bronson Centre (211 Bronson Avenue, outside Room 107) and we offer food service to the public on Wednesdays and Thursdays each week.

We are seeking people to join our Board of Directors. Ideal candidates will have volunteer experience, an understanding of the charitable sector and awareness of the multitude of factors that impact food insecurity. Applicants should demonstrate an affinity for cultivating relationships and collaborating within a diverse team environment.
At present, we are searching for someone to lead our Communications and Social Media activities, but we also have space for a candidate with strong business acumen.
If you are passionate about our mission, share comparable values and want to offer meaningful input into the oversight of our organization, please apply to join our Board of Directors. The team meets monthly for about 1.5 hours (typically on a week night), and each Director is asked to support the work of a sub-committee (Fundraising, Communications, or Advocacy). Members act as ambassadors for the organization and serve an initial two-year term.
Board Member Responsibilities
• Oversee strategic and organizational planning in alignment with the mission and values of the organization.
• Ensure strong fiduciary oversight and financial management of the organization.
• Review and approve Board policies, annual budget and audit reports.
• Actively participate in Board discussions and work projects; prepare for meetings by reviewing the agenda, reports and resource documents.
• Leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to achieve the organization’s mission.
• Fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for the organization to advance its mission.
• Evaluate and monitor the organization’s programs and services.
• Select, support and evaluate the performance of the Executive Director.
• Facilitate and build consensus among diverse individuals.
TO APPLY FOR THIS ROLE
If you are eager to share your knowledge and expertise to help us in supporting Ottawa residents, forward a one-page cover letter outlining your interest and explaining how your skills and experience will be leveraged at our table.
Submit your application to [email protected] on or before March 8th at 5:00 pm.
Applications will be screened as they arrive and the posting will remain active until we find the most suitable candidates.
Thank you for your interest in working with Dalhousie Food Cupboard. Please note that only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

Volunteer location:
Much of the volunteer work will be done virtually, but there may be a few in-person meetings throughout the year. Our office is located in the Bronson Centre at 211 Bronson Avenue Ottawa ON K1R 6H5
