The Community Outreach Volunteer will be contributing to OCO’s outreach efforts in Eastern and Northern Ontario. The role will work in conjunction with the OCO staff team to support one or more of the following activities:

• Attend community events to represent the OCO at an outreach booth
• Talk about the OCO and/or share their caregiving story at public speaking opportunities
• Engage caregivers and the community with OCO’s programs and services

*Please note: This volunteer role will be in-person at community agencies and organizations across Ontario (i.e., libraries, senior centres). All in-person volunteers must be fully vaccinated and follow the OCO COVID-19 vaccination policy.

• Run an outreach booth at various locations/events including set up and take down of the booth, and sharing information about the OCO and the programs and services we offer
• Deliver presentations about the OCO and programs and services to support caregivers
• Share your caregiving story and experience with other caregivers
• Coordinate the viewing of live OCO webinars including set up, welcoming attendees, tracking attendance and promoting upcoming OCO events
• Support the distribution of OCO materials (i.e., postcards, flyers) at local agencies or community organizations
• Help identify potential outreach and awareness opportunities for the OCO

• Caregiver who is currently or has previously provided physical and/or emotional support to a family member or friend
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work well independently and use good judgment with minimal supervision
• Able to communicate with a variety of people effectively and maintain professionalism
• Strong technical ability and proficiency in the use of computers and various software applications, in particular Zoom
• Support for the mission and values of OCO
• Bilingual in English and French is an asset
• Must be 18 years old or older
Time Commitment: The Community Outreach Volunteer may volunteer up to 2-3 hours per month, depending on the number of community events or speaking opportunities available. Preference will be given to applicants who are able to commit to a minimum of 6 months.

The OCO will cover any mileage or travel expenses to attend community events/locations and provide an honorarium as a token of appreciation.

Orientation and Training: Orientation and training will be provided. The Engagement Lead will provide an orientation with an in-depth understanding of the OCO’s mission and values, and programs and services. The Regional Lead will provide training specific to the responsibilities and maintain on-going supervision, support and regular ‘check-ins.’
