Description
Vista Centre Brain Injury Services (VCBIS) operates a 5-bed residential home in the heart of Westboro. The home provides staffing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Each participant is involved in developing their own rehabilitation goals with assistance from the Residential Counsellors. All programs and scheduled activities are created based on the participant’s needs and interests. Individuals are encouraged to maintain an independent lifestyle.
The role of the Community Support Companion is to work with the Residential Counsellors in implementing the goals and programs set out in the Clients individual support plan (ISP). These activities could consist of but are not limited to completing exercise routines as prescribed by a physiotherapist, accompany Client(s) to the gym, theater, coffee shop, swimming pool, or other leisure outings.
The position would take up a minimum of 2 hours a week with a maximum of five hours a week being required. There is the potential for more hours if desired.
We are specifically looking for a candidate who is knowledgeable and is able to take a client to the gym 2-3 times a week. The Client already has a membership, and the Companion would enter free, and would be required to assist the client in proper form and technique.
There are also general positions open for other leisure activities.
Requirements:
Volunteers should be knowledgeable of the limitations and barriers that people with acquired brain injuries face and have some type of knowledge of community resources and activities.
Knowledge of social services is an asset.
First aid and CRP C is an asset.
Vulnerable Sector Police Check is required.
Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset but is not required.
Safe Management Crisis Intervention Training is an asset.
All interested parties can submit a resume and a one-page cover letter explaining how their skills will assist clients and in which areas they would like to volunteer in.
