COVID Tester / COVID Screener
Visitors to the Carleton Lodge Long Term Care Home must be screened for COVID and may be required to undergo testing before being admitted. We are looking for volunteers to help in these tasks.
Screeners greet visitors at the entrance and have them complete a COVID questionnaire. They review the information provided and determine if the person can simply be admitted or requires further screening or testing. Screeners direct people requiring a test to the testing area. Finally, they provide visitors with a new mask and invite them to sanitize their hands.
Testers administer the Rapid Antigen Test by swabbing the inside of each cheek and the lower part of both nostrils and processing the test while the visitor waits nearby. If the result is negative, the visitor can proceed. If the result is positive, the assistance of a nurse is requested. Testers complete and file the related paperwork and discard the test material.
The work is straightforward and training is provided to ensure volunteers are comfortable performing the tasks. Protective equipment (gown, mask, gloves, eye protection) is provided to ensure volunteers are safe.
Various shifts are available. The length of the shift is 2 hour or more depending on availability.
