Dining Room Host
Description
The Dining room Host will support staff and residents to ensure each resident is provided with excellent individualized, caring, respectful and homelike service during every meal. This includes setting a relaxed and supportive dining environment, providing residents choices and socialization with residents throughout the meal experience.
Volunteer tasks include
– Setting the dining enviroment to increase enjoyment during the meal expereince.
-Supporting residents to and from the dining room.
-Supporting staff with an organization distrubtion of the meals ensuring that residents are provided choices
-Support residents as needed to enjoy their meal
-Participate in meaningful conversation with residents during the meal
-Support with clean up from the meal and transitioning into an after meal activity
Volunteer Requirements
Volunteers in this role are required
– to have prior experience supporting older adults living with dementia
– to be 18 years of age or older
-be available for at least 1 consistent 2 hour shift each week. Shifts take place 11am-1pm daily

How will this opportunity benefit the volunteer?
Volunteers will gain first hand experience providing an enjoyable meal experience to older adults living with dementia. As well gain experience with a emotion based approach to care that puts the individual and their experiences first.
How will the organization benefit?
Volunteers help to ensure that residents are engaged in meaningful socialization and enjoyment of the dining experience. Through volunteer support the transition periods and waiting time to be served will be non-existent increasing the overall enjoyment.

Please note that we are not able to provide parking near the home. There is free on street parking with a time limit of 2 hours and secure underground parking at Lansdowne TD place for a free. The bright side we are on direct bus routes 6 and 7 that have stops right in front of the Centre on Bank street.
