We are looking for new members to join our Board of Directors
Our board is a dynamic and incredible group of women and gender-diverse volunteers who support the organization in a variety of capacities. The time commitment can vary depending on committee work, but candidates must be able to commit 2-3 hours each week. The board meets monthly between September-June. Our virtual or hybrid meetings are typically on the third Monday of each month from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. Directors also join committees that meet virtually as needed over the noon hour between Monday and Friday. The committees include but are not limited to finance, personnel, nominations, bylaws, labour relations, francophone advisory, strategic planning, and fundraising.

We are keen to hear from folks who:
• Are eager to work as part of a collective and to use consensus-based decision-making
• Approach and apply their feminism from an intersectional and an anti-oppressive lens
• Are looking to share their skills in a creative and nonhierarchical way
• Are looking to work with a diverse group of people who care about justice, harm reduction, and the wellbeing of communities
• Live in the National Capital Region
• Can speak more than one language; French/English bilingualism is an asset
• Are women or gender diverse folks, who are also members of equity seeking groups including 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals; First Nations, Métis, and Inuit individuals, persons with disabilities, and members of racialized and marginalized groups.

Currently, we’re looking for individuals with:
– Human resources experience
– Financial experience
– Labour/union experience
– Fundraising experience

How will the organization benefit?
Amethyst Centre Ottawa, founded in 1979, is a day-treatment program offering alternative addiction services to women and gender diverse individuals in the Ottawa area. Our goal is to support individuals’ empowerment in addressing challenges in their relationships with substances and/or gambling. We operate as a modified feminist collective to provide a range of services to our communities based on core values of anti-oppressive practice and client-centered care.
