Food Bank Delivery Driver - Ottawa Cares
Description
In March of 2020, the Manor Park Community Council, in partnership with your Community Collective (Cardinal Glen, Lindenlea, New Edinburgh, Manor Park, Overbrook, Rockcliffe Park and Vanier) launched Ottawa Cares – our community response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
At the launch, our primary goal was the coordination of volunteers to deliver food hampers from local food banks to residents in need. To date we have delivered over 5000 boxes to local residents. Many of which are seniors, single parent families, or large member households.
So we ask – can you help your community by volunteering as a Food Bank Delivery Driver?
Volunteer drivers are needed to deliver food hampers from local Food Banks to residents around Ottawa.
Volunteers are welcome to register for delivery opportunities at any or all participating Food Banks:
Rideau Rockcliffe Community Resource Centre (RRCRC) at 815 St. Laurent Blvd.
Vanier Food Bank (Partage Vanier) at 161 Marier Avenue
Parkdale Food Centre at 30 Rosemount Ave.
Dalhousie Food Cupboard – 211 Bronson Ave.
Once registered as a volunteer, shift selection is flexible. With shift signups going out on a weekly basis. This makes it easy for volunteers to help around their schedule.
Volunteer drivers require:
A smart phone with cellular data
A personal vehicle
Driver’s licence
Car insurance
Comfortable lifting boxes up to 20 pounds.
If you can help, please register through Volunteer Ottawa and we will be in touch with further instructions.
