How will this opportunity benefit the volunteer?
As a registered scouter, this volunteer will join the well-supported and organized Scouts Canada network, benefiting from the training and development opportunities this network provides plus individualized support at the local group level. These opportunities include but are not limited to first aid courses, outdoor skills training, leadership development, and youth programming.
At the local level, we have benefited from an excellent record of parents volunteering to help with our regular programming needs, but this opportunity is one example of our efforts to offer roles to people who would like to help but are unable or less suited to interacting directly with the youth on a weekly basis. Volunteers in this role can make excellent contributions to the program in a background role that has more flexible timing than the section scouters who interact with the youth directly each week.
This role specifically will involve exploring new funding possibilities, developing experience in building networks across the non-profit and local business communities. We are happy to customize the specifics of the position to adapt to individuals' strengths and personal circumstances.
How will the organization benefit?
We are a healthy network of committed volunteers, but we all have constraints on the time and energy that we can contribute. This opportunity is one example of our identification of areas where we would like to grow, but although we have a number of great ideas to pursue, the existing volunteers have not been able to dedicate enough time to realize our goals. We would love to hear your ideas about how you could help us with this task, and we offer our experience and support in return.
