Description

Kids Connection Haiti, founded 14 years ago to help at-risk Haitian youth in Port-Au-Prince to get an education and then to get a job, is seeking a highly motivated fundraising volunteer to join our dedicated team in Ottawa so that we can reach an even greater number of deserving Haitian youth. This is an ongoing, remote-work position. While there is no fixed commitment of hours, it is envisioned the volunteer would devote between 5 and 10 hours per week. The anticipated start date is October 7th. The fundraising volunteer would develop and then lead a variety of strategies to increase the charity’s income using our past fundraising activities as a starting point and spring board. While the fundraising volunteer would lead, they would not be alone. Other volunteers in Canada, Washington and Port-Au-Prince would be available to provide input and resources such as statistics, pictures and videos and to help in person in the greater Ottawa, Toronto and/or Montreal areas. The fundraising volunteer must be a self-motivated, outgoing and organized individual, well versed in common spreadsheet, digital presentation, email and video conferencing software looking for the satisfaction of helping some of the most destitute but deserving youth in the Western Hemisphere to pull themselves and their families out of poverty. Prior experience would be an asset but not a necessity. A willingness to experiment and to learn will be essential. With graduation and employment rates over 90% over our history, we know the KCH model works. We must now grow to help even more. An in-person, two-way conversation to ensure KCH and the volunteer are each a good fit for the other would be the next step.

How will this opportunity benefit the volunteer?
The volunteer will benefit from the satisfaction of helping some of the most destitute but deserving young people in the Western Hemisphere to pull not only themselves but also their family members out of poverty. Haiti is at a turning point that the volunteer can be a part of; being a key part of an alternative solution to joining a gang that has proven successful over the past 14 years. The volunteer will also benefit from the close relationships certain to be developed with other volunteers, staff members and beneficiaries of the charity. If they wish, the volunteer could benefit from seeing the situation in Port-Au-Prince first-hand and meeting with beneficiaries in person. In addition, the volunteer will gain experience with project management, public speaking and budgeting.
How will the organization benefit?
Kids Connection Haiti (KCH) will benefit from the volunteer's energy, perspective, experience and help raising funds for our current and future beneficiaries through new fundraising ideas and opportunities brought about by the volunteer's involvement. With additional funds, KCH will help more beneficiaries both in the same, well established ways as we have been to this point but, importantly, also in new and needed ways such as the provision of basic physical and mental health care. Also, with a larger number of beneficiaries receiving financial aid, the volunteer will help considerably to improve the efficiency of our use of donated funds.
Volunteer location:
Fundraising activities will take place throughout the greater Ottawa-Gatineau area at such places as schools, club meetings, corporate and university events and others with planning and preparation carried out at times and places convenient to the volunteer such as their home or office.
