The Glebe Centre is a cornerstone of care for older residents in Ottawa. Beginning in 1886 as Ontario’s first home for the aged, the Glebe Centre, a not-for-profit organization, is dedicated to providing a comfortable and safe environment and person-focused services and programs that have a positive impact on senior physical, social and emotional health and well-being.
The Glebe Centre, located in the Glebe community, has 254 residents in its long-term care home, and offers an array of community programs and services to over 1000 seniors in the Glebe, surrounding neighborhoods and broader Ottawa community at its Abbotsford House.

SEEKING NEW MEMBERS
The Board has between nine and twelve Board members. They generally serve two three-year terms, which supports a continuous rotation of the Board members.
The Glebe Centre is seeking three new members for the Board of Directors. We would like a Board that:
• Is diverse and inclusive
• Has a membership with a variety of skills, knowledge and experience
• Cares for and supports our community and values

OPPORTUNITY TO CONTRIBUTE
If you have a strong interest in the care provided to our aging community; a willingness to share your skills and experience; and you would like to make a difference, please express your interest in joining the Glebe Centre Board of Directors. As a Board member, your participation in one of the Board Committees would be appreciated. The current Committees are Finance and Audit, Governance, and Fundraising and Community Engagement.
We are seeking candidates with expertise in some of the following areas:
• Board governance and leadership with not-for-profit organizations
• Senior health care and well-being including community services and programs
• Fundraising and foundations
• Accounting and financial management
• Human resource management
• Other relevant experience
Experience in executive and senior management positions and interface with Boards would be viewed as assets.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES
As a volunteer, responsibilities and activities of Board members include:
• Attending nine regular Board meetings (usually 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. the third Tuesday in January, February, March, April, May, September, October and November) and the Annual General Meeting and Post-AGM meeting (usually from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in June) each year. The option of attending most meetings virtually is available.
• Participating in Board committees and working groups if possible.
• Contributing to Board discussions, planning and other work as required.
• Engaging in the broader community.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
• Candidates selected for interviews may be asked to provide three references at the end of the interview.
• Candidates will also require an up-to-date Criminal Record Check prior to appointment to the Board.
