Objective: To provide program support and assist clients on the Grocery Bus.
Duties: The Grocery Bus (TGB) program provides bi-weekly grocery shopping support to senior
clients who live in our community. The Grocery bus program is on Wednesday’s mornings. Volunteer meet the service coordinator at the Centre at 9:15am. Volunteer tasks on the Grocery bus can include: giving directions to the bus driver, helping the clients on and off the bus, collecting the service fees from each client, distributing clients ID cards and calling clients to inform them that the bus will be arriving at their home shortly. Once at Billings Bridge shopping Centre, Grocery bus volunteers assist clients with grocery shopping, if necessary. Assistance can be reading labels, searching for grocery items and/or escorting client around the shopping mall.
Qualifications: Volunteer must be physically able and willing to assist seniors with shopping.
Experience working with seniors is an asset.
The grocery bus is a vibrant social outing for clients. The ideal volunteer for this position is someone who enjoys conversing with seniors and has sensitivity towards the needs of seniors.
Time Required: Biweekly commitment of approximately 3 hours to complete the Grocery Bus route, plus occasional orientation/training sessions. This may vary according to need and circumstances. The bus runs every second Wednesday morning, and leaves SEOCHC at 9:15am sharp.
