Description

Be an English literacy volunteer tutor and mentor for the ELF’s Sage Youth Programs. Work one-on-one, and in small groups with children and youth working to overcome barriers.

We are looking for volunteer support for our in-person program in the By-ward Market area. This program runs on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 1-3pm.

Please note that our current volunteer placement opportunities require tutors who are comfortable tutoring in English.

You will be provided with all necessary training and materials. A vulnerable sector police check and 2 professional references are required.

Please join us and support students with their literacy and life-skills. Come with your patience and good will to teach, mentor, and become a hero.

For more information about the ELF’s Sage Youth programs, please visit our website at www.excellenceinliteracy.org. You may contact us by email at [email protected] or by phone at 613-838-5539.

We look forward to hearing from you!

How will this opportunity benefit the volunteer?
This opportunity will benefit the volunteer by providing them with experience in the areas of education, social work, psychology, sociology, and most of all, community service.
How will the organization benefit?
Without the help of our talented, dedicated volunteer tutors/mentors, we could never deliver the gift of literacy—and hope—to these wonderful young people. As an added bonus, once trained, our volunteers become literacy advocates in their communities, workplaces and public institutions, reminding those around them that literacy should not be taken for granted, and that more work must be done!
