Organisation Description
The Friends of the Ottawa Public Library Association (FOPLA) manages five bookstores, more than 20 self-serve bookshelves, a central Distribution Facility in Nepean, specialty monthly sales, and an online used bookstore, kindreads.com. We are a volunteer-driven organization that, since its inception in 2003, has donated more than $4.2 million dollars to support Ottawa Public Library initiatives and programs. We contribute to creating vibrant Ottawa communities through our advocacy and outreach work.

What are we looking for?
We are looking for a volunteer to act as our Membership Coordinator. If you are a passionate supporter of our Ottawa Public Library and you’d like to help us maintain and engage our membership, then we’d like to hear from you.

Candidate Attributes
Required:
– available to commit to volunteering for 1-year term
– attention to detail and organized
– comfortable working with office software and online tools
– strong communications and relationship management skills
– team player
Desired:
– membership engagement and recognition experience
– familiarity with online tools, e.g Canada Helps, social media, etc
Nice to have:
– experience working with a not-for-profit or charitable organization.
Responsibilities:
• Work with Finance and Administrative staff to maintain up-to-date member database/list; keep an up-to-date email/mailing list of all active members
• Deliver member thank-you letters and benefit packages in a timely fashion
• Respond to phone calls, emails and other correspondence regarding membership
• Work with Board to update membership materials, policies, and procedures
• Work with Board to develop member appreciation events and communications throughout the year
• Participate on special ad-hoc projects
• Keep files on inactive members
• Prepare a quarterly written report for the Board; report on activity as requested at Board meetings
