The Memory Board program helps to build the connection of emotion-based person centered care for our residents. Volunteers with the memory board program connects with residents and their families to learn about the resident’s life, their favorite things and memories.

Task for the position include;
– Await assignment from their supervisor to a resident. This only occurs after the Power of Attorney has consented to having a memory board created.
-If the resident can share about their life, arrange 2-3 visits with the resident to gather information
-Connect with the family members via their preferred communication choice (email, telephone, in person) to collect further information and photos related to the information.
-Create written pieces of collected information, provide to POA to ensure information as written as they wish.
-Create the memory board utilizing Bristol board, printed images, text and other relevant materials. Frame and all materials required will be provided. Volunteers are encouraged to be creative but be mindful that it should match the resident’s styles and preferences (example, consider the resident’s favorite colors and images)
-Deliver final board to the resident at The Glebe Centre.

Volunteers for this program must
– Have their own computer and have strong computer skills
– Be 18 years of age or older

Please note that all printing will be printed by The Glebe Centre Staff if the volunteer does not wish to utilize their own printer or does not have access to a printer.

How will this opportunity benefit the volunteer?
Volunteers will gain experience in legacy creation and reminiscing activities. They will also gain experience supporting older adults with dementia and other cognitive/physical decline.
How will the organization benefit?
Through the memory board program our staff are able to have a stronger understanding of who our residents were throughout their life. From having direct access to the information residents are also able to develop stronger connections with each other.
Volunteer location:
77 Monk Street Please note that we are not able to provide parking near the home. There is free on street parking with a time limit of 2 hours and secure underground parking at Lansdowne TD place that can be validated for $2 for 4 hours, this is only aviaible to volunteers on weekdays from 8-4pm. The bright side we are on direct bus routes 6 and 7 that have stops right in front of the Centre on Bank street.
