Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
-Interact extensively with the visiting public by greeting visitors and providing a brief overview of the site’s history
-Respond to questions, engage in dialogues and direct visitors
-Provide excellent customer service; assisting with visitor reception and gift shop sales
-Assist in basic housekeeping of the site
Experience and Skill Requirements:
The ideal volunteer will have excellent interpersonal skills; will be enthusiastic & creative, have excellent communication & organizational skills, have experience working with the general public, be capable of working in a team (including staff members & other volunteers), and have a great sense of humour!
Interest in regional history, historic buildings, traditional machinery, and/or community development is an asset.
This volunteer position works in a historic building that is not temperature regulated (no A/C or heating) from September-October, with the ability to take cooling/warming breaks in our office. The environment will also have wheat flour and dust in the air.
Watson’s Mill & Dickinson House are not fully accessible and volunteers will be required to climb stairs on occasion.

This opportunity will benefit the volunteer as it provides the satisfaction of knowing they were integral to providing cultural heritage services to the community of Manotick and our visitors. This position requires extensive social interaction and in doing so helps our visitors to learn about the past.

Watson's Mill & Dickinson House will benefit as we will be able to remain open to the public in September and October providing our valuable services to the community.
