This runs on alternating Thursday mornings with a time commitment of 9:00am-10:30am.

Music Therapy Group Assistants would be required to fulfill the following task to assist in facilitating the program for residents.
-Escorting residents to and from the program space within the home. This will include needing to be able to push a wheelchair. Training will be provided.
-Assist the Music Therapist to facilitate the program through ways such as; Passing out instruments, sitting with 1-2 residents for encouragement, answering resident questions, singing along with the residents.
-Clean up for the session- Assist to rearrange room following all residents leaving the space and disinfection of any instruments used.
-Participate in a group debriefing session with other the music therapist following each group.

Volunteers do not require musical experience but should be comfortable engaging with the residents in conversation. The volunteer’s enthusiasm for the music helps to create a positive and encouraging environment for our residents.

How will this opportunity benefit the volunteer?
Volunteers in the Music Therapy Group Program will gain first hand experience working with older adults experiencing cognitive and physical impairments including those living with dementia. Through their support they directly support residents emotional well-being.
How will the organization benefit?
The Music Therapy Group program supports our residents to be empowered, develop a sense of belonging, improve social connection, and reminisces. Through the support of volunteers, a larger number of residents will be able to participate meaningfully in the Music Therapy Group program each week. As well those who need additional 1:1 support to actively participate will be able to do so.

77 Monk Street Ottawa Ontario Please note that we are not able to provide parking near the home. There is free on street parking with a time limit of 2 hours. There is a paid parking lot at Lansdowne TD place that volunteers can park at however the parking cost will be at the volunteers expense. The bright side we are on direct bus routes 6 and 7 that have stops right in front of the Centre on Bank street.
