Ottawa Bach Choir - Leipzig 1723
Description
The Ottawa Bach Choir is looking for volunteers for the final concert of the season and post concert reception:
What will the evening look like?
• We have a team of eight wonderful volunteers
• Doors will open for patron entry at 7:15 PM, giving time for patrons to be seated before the performance begins at 8 PM. The performance itself is approximately 2 hours, with an intermission at the midway point
• Tickets will be available for sale at the door, but we have encouraged all patrons to purchase tickets ahead of time via the website. We will also have merchandise available for purchase (CDs). Volunteers will check guests in using the guest list (assigned at Orientation)
• Concert volunteers will escort RESERVED ticket holders to the reserved section, direct patrons to the washrooms or seating areas, hand out concert programmes.
• Following the concert, this team will collect any programmes left behind, and ensure the concert hall is left in the condition that we started with.
The Reception team will:
• Prepare the reception hall: Light candles (two tapers, battery) around the reception hall, food placement on serving table, prepare champagne glasses (plastic requiring the stems to be attached) and juice glasses on beverage table, place 10-15 chairs around the room for older patrons *This needs to be done as quickly and quietly as possible. Some of these items may already be completed prior to the concert starting*
• Admit guests from a guest list immediately following the concert (approximately 10:00 pm)
• WASH HANDS BEFORE SERVING FOOD (there is a sink in the reception hall)
• Pour and serve beverages and food. We are looking for one additional volunteer with SMART SERVE
• Gather garbage/recyclables and place in appropriate bags provided. Clean-up is an on-going task as we need to vacate the premises by 11 pm.
• Assist elderly guests as needed (this may include escorting them outside to await a taxi or assisting them with a walking device)
• Pack up leftover food and beverages in containers provided, fold table cloths, stack chairs, and collect garbage and recyclables. This should start at 10:50 pm (though it can begin earlier if the crowd is thinning).
How will this opportunity benefit the volunteer?
As a volunteer, you will be able to enjoy the concert for free! The Ottawa Bach Choir, founded in 2002 by Dr. Lisette Canton, offers audiences a wide range of choral music of the finest quality, performing music from all historical periods while keeping Bach’s choral oeuvre as the focus of its repertoire. With the combination of a scholarly and emotional approach, the OBC provides an unforgettable experience of choral music at its best. The OBC won the 2020 JUNO Award for its album, Handel: Dixit Dominus; Bach & Schütz: Motets, in the category Classical Album of the Year: Vocal or Choral, and returned from the prestigious international festival, Bachfest Leipzig, in June 2022.
