Description

The Ottawa Humane Society (OHS), a non-profit, community-based organization and a registered charity, is seeking to fill three positions on its board of directors. Should you be interested in applying, we are accepting applications until March 22, 2024.

Since 1888, the Ottawa Humane Society has served as the leading organization, providing a safe haven for sick, injured and homeless animals in Ottawa. We have a volunteer board of directors, drawn from our supporters and the community at large. Our mission is “To lead Ottawa in building a humane and compassionate community for all animals.”

The OHS board of directors is the governance body of the OHS. On behalf of the community, and representing the members of the OHS, the board provides the strategic direction, resources, high-level oversight, insight and foresight for the organization to be successful in achieving its mission and goals.

OHS board members come from all walks of life. Ideally, but not exclusively, candidates are sought with board and/or volunteer experience with charitable/not-for-profit organizations, and have expertise in some of the following areas: community leadership; equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives; finance/accounting; legal or regulatory; governance; management/strategic planning; evaluation/performance management; fundraising; human resources/recruitment & retention; privacy/security; information technology; communications or public relations; and government relations.

The OHS is committed to ensuring that it is an equitable, diverse and inclusive organization. We are dedicated to reflect the diverse identities and life experiences of the communities with whom we collaborate. As such, we encourage applications from historically under-served and under-represented groups including racialized, Indigenous Peoples (First Nations, Inuit and Métis), 2SLGBTQI+ individuals and persons with disabilities. We are also happy to provide accommodation at any stage of the recruitment process.
