Time Commitment: 1 day a week (7.5 hours)
*6 months minimum
*plus additional time communicating online with supervisor as needed
*attending online general orientation and training as needed

Location: The Dementia Society Centre (2327 St. Laurent Blvd Unit 500, Ottawa, ON K1G 4J8)
Program Description:
The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County (DSORC) is currently seeking volunteers to help support our front desk operations and ensure a welcoming environment for our clients and visitors. This position plays a crucial role in managing phone communications, greeting clients, and supporting various administrative tasks.
Primary Role and Responsibilities:
1. Reception Duties:
• Sit at the reception desk and maintain a welcoming presence.
• Greet clients and visitors warmly and direct them to the appropriate person or service.
2. Phone Management:
• Answer incoming phone calls promptly and courteously.
• Transfer calls to appropriate staff members or take detailed messages when necessary.
• Fill out the phone log accurately, noting the caller’s name, purpose, and any follow-up required.
3. Administrative Support:
• Hand out parking passes to clients and visitors as needed.
• Open and close the office at designated times, ensuring the security and readiness of the office environment.
• Receive, date stamp, and distribute incoming mail and packages within the office.
Qualifications and Skills:
• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Friendly and professional demeanor.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with phone systems.
• Reliable and punctual.
• Compassion, understanding and awareness of dementia
• Maintain a positive, supportive, and welcome environment
• Bilingualism in English and French is an asset but not required
