Description

Perley Health is proud to partner with True Patriot Love as part of a national Veteran Volunteerism Initiative.
The objective of the Veteran Volunteer Initiative is to establish an expert knowledge base to better understand the relationship between volunteerism and well-being in Veterans. Through volunteering, we expect Veterans will improve wellbeing and help form stronger ties with their communities, to the benefit of all. We have certainly witnessed this, on many occasions, when veterans volunteer at Perley Health!
This work will be unified by the development of a National Action Plan on Veteran Volunteerism that will result in increased sustainable Veteran volunteerism in the military and civilian sectors. All veterans applying to volunteer at Perley Health will be asked to complete a pre and post survey to contribute to the VVI data.

How will this opportunity benefit the volunteer?
Military veterans gain a sense of pride and purpose while volunteering with Seniors and Veterans at Perley Health. Our Volunteer Services team provides extensive support and recognition for those serving our community.
How will the organization benefit?
Our volunteers provide special comfort and care to residents of our Village. Volunteers are carefully screened and trained to give direct support through welcoming new residents and families, medical escorts, feeding, visiting, pet therapy, palliative and spiritual care. Volunteers enable greater participation in church services, creative arts, recreation, and physiotherapy programs. They staff Deborah’s Gift Boutique, the residents' Pub and Ice Cream Parlour and they porter residents to the Beauty Salon and Barber Shop. Loved ones are welcome to volunteer to provide direction to the Health Centre through the Family and Friends Council.
