SHEO - Coaches Needed for the 2024/2025 Season!
Description
SHEO is seeking qualified coaches for the upcoming 2024/2025 season, which runs from the end of September to mid-April. Below are the requirements for coaching positions, which should ideally be completed before applying or with the understanding that they will be completed before the season starts.
For Development/Junior:
- Head Coach – Coach 1-Intro to Coach Trained
- Assistant Coach – Coach 1-Intro to Coach Trained (1)
- Other staff and additional courses – Respect in Sport (RIS) – Activity Leader or Speak-Out, Gender Identity and Expression Course, NCCP Coaching Athletes with a Disability
For Intermediate:
- Head Coach – Coach 2-Coach Level Trained
- Assistant Coach – Coach 2-Coach Level Trained (2)
- Other staff and additional courses – Respect in Sport (RIS) – Activity Leader or Speak-Out, Gender Identity and Expression Course, NCCP Coaching Athletes with a Disability
In addition to meeting these requirements, the ideal candidate should possess qualities such as patience, adaptability, strong communication skills as well as empathy and support for athletes. Previous experience in either stand-up hockey and/or sledge hockey is an asset.

How will the organization benefit?
SHEO will greatly benefit from having a coaching volunteer in several ways. A dedicated coach brings fresh energy and enthusiasm, which can inspire and motivate athletes. A coach can also provide personalized attention and mentorship, fostering a supportive and encouraging environment that promotes both athletic and personal growth for the players. Coaching can also provide a unique perspective and can introduce new skills, techniques and strategies, contributing to the team's development and success.
Volunteer location:
Practices: Weekly on Sundays at Jim Durrell.
Games: Typically, on Saturdays (schedule yet to be released). The team plays two games in one day, about 1-2 times per month.
Away Games: Can be in Gatineau, Laval, Montreal, or Quebec.
Tournaments: The team plays in 3-4 tournaments per year, including the Ottawa Tournament.
