Snoezelen is a therapeutic environment created for the express purpose of delivering high levels of stimuli in people with dementia. A private room displays optical illusions with combined lighting effects, aromas, colors, textures and sounds to stimulate a persons visual, olfactory and auditory systems. Sensory therapy has helped to increase awareness and has proven effective in improving moods for those living with dementia.

How will this opportunity benefit the volunteer?
Volunteers are an integral part of ensuring continued specialized program offerings to our residents. Through volunteering with the Snoezelen Program volunteers will gain an understanding of people living with dementia and see the tangible benefit to residents through their support.
How will the organization benefit?
The Glebe Centre supports residence through 1 to 1 and group programming. Through volunteer support for specialized programs such as Snoezelen we are able to increase the daily offerings for our residents.
