Snoezelen is a therapeutic environment created for the express purpose of delivering high levels of stimuli in people with dementia. A private room displays optical illusions with combined lighting effects, aromas, colors, textures and sounds to stimulate a persons olfactory and auditory systems. Sensory therapy has helped helped to increase awareness and has proven effective in improving moods for those diagnosed with dementia.
How will this opportunity benefit the volunteer?
Volunteers will participate in training prior to independently conducting Snoezelen sessions. Volunteers continue to be supported during each visit. Volunteers will learn about dementia, behaviors, documentation and how specific programs can help support individuals with cognitive impairment.
How will the organization benefit?
We cannot run our programs with out the benefit and support from volunteers.
