Description

The goal of the Social Engagement and Activity Volunteer is to facilitate activities run within the residence in a supportive environment. The Activity Volunteer is welcome to engage with residents in various activities dependent on the volunteer’s interests. These activities help improve our residents’ well-being and are something they can look forward to.
Some examples of activities are what follows:
• Self-Care (hair cuttings, foot care, nail painting)
• Recreational activities (bingo, board games, cards, pool tournament, watching sports, crafts, karaoke, playing instruments for/with residents, book club)
• Lifestyle activities (decorating the residences for events or holidays, walking club, sewing/knitting club, gardening)
We can provide a lot of flexibility for people who want to come in from a few times a week, to weekly, to monthly, to once or a twice a year. If you want to volunteer for a semester, a summer, or more long-term, we have options! We also have flexibility in schedule to work around a time that works for you.
Interested? We have a spot for you! You can apply at sghottawa.com/volunteer or email us at [email protected].

How will this opportunity benefit the volunteer?
The Social Engagement and Activity position is a great place for volunteers to engage with the community directly, build relationships and learn about the community while working with a vulnerable population. The volunteer will be able to develop their skills working as part of a team and see the impact of their actions immediately. Donating your time and talent connects you to amazing people in our community, creates new and long-lasting friendships, and contributes to the SGH vision of homes for all, community for all, hope for all.
How will the organization benefit?
SGH benefits from volunteers sharing their skills and passions with the individuals living in our residences. This helps with engagement, reduces loneliness, and allows residents and volunteers to learn new skills from each other.
