Support Group Co-Facilitator – Online Volunteer

Time Commitment: 2 hours every week on Fridays from 10am to noon.
*6 months minimum
*plus additional time communicating online with supervisor as needed
*attending online general orientation and training as needed

Program Description:
The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County (DSORC) is currently seeking volunteers to help support our Dementia Care Coaches during our Virtual Caregiver Support Group program – the group is run once a month for 2 hours.
Primary Role and Responsibilities:
• Co-facilitate group discussion via the online platform zoom
• Provide validation, reassurance and guidance to caregiver participants
Qualifications and Skills:
• Extensive lived experience required (i.e. being a caregiver, or have supported people living with dementia)
• Patience and compassion when working with others who are cognitively impaired
• Professionalism and a positive disposition with excellent interpersonal skills
• Compassion, understanding and awareness of dementia
• Maintain a positive, supportive, and welcome environment learning
• Maintain confidentiality of all participants
• Reliability and punctuality
• Bilingualism in English and French is an asset but not required
