T-Ball Program Coordinator
Description
T-Ball is for boys and girls ages 4 and 5 years old. The coordinator role involves helping the volunteer coaches get organized at the beginning of the season in order to get off on the right foot on the first few outings. The program itself is fully developed and laid out for coaches to follow in a written, easy to follow approach. The coordinator does not need baseball knowledge, although some basic baseball knowledge doesn’t hurt, however this is an organizing job. The coordinator will given clear direction and support by experienced board members who have done the job in past seasons. The coordinator will be the first point of contact for T-Ball parent convenors and coaches for their questions and details, such as “we need a smaller shirt for one of our players”.
This job is concentrated in late April (1-2 hrs per week) and early May (6-8 hrs/week) as teams are formed and get out on the field. After mid May the coordinator responds as required by coaches and communicates things like photo day (which is set up by other volunteers). The volunteer will need access to a computer and will use our league website to access and communicate to program participants. A VSC is required – we will reimburse any associated cost.
How will this opportunity benefit the volunteer?
T-Ball volunteers enjoy knowing the role they play in supporting coaches in delivering the program. This is vitally important so that a young child's introduction to sports is the best it can be. The confidence, exercise and socializing gained at this young age is foundational to their development in life, as well as in sports. Fun is the key to this program, as well as skill development.
The volunteer will communicate with our board of directors which may further understanding of how volunteer boards work. Attending board meetings (virtual) is not required, but may be of interest.
How will the organization benefit?
These little athletes are the future of our program and considered highly important to the ongoing success of our league. In this younger age group it is more challenging to find parent volunteers to oversee the program. They are quite willing to participate as coaches, team managers etc but a little more hesitant to undertake bigger roles until they understand more about our league and our programs. Most are putting their child into sports for the first time and are new to our league. Other local leagues have had big success in involving a non parent adult, or young adult as their T-Ball coordinator.
Volunteer location:
The volunteer will attend baseball diamonds on a few ( 2 or 3) occasions at the beginning of the season to get things underway. The diamonds are located at Canterbury diamonds 2185 Arch Street beside Kilrea Arena and Leitrim arena on Leitrim Road behind Fred Barrett arena. They are accessible by public transportation. After that, coaches lead the program and contact the volunteer if they need support.
