Description

The volunteer does not need to be a finance professional. Some basic math skills are required and the ability read a simple financial statement (or to learn to do so), to manage a bank account and to report on its status are needed. Having used a spreadsheet would be a useful skill but not essential.
Here is the description of the volunteer activity in a bit more detail:
1. Attend four general meetings a year plus an Annual General Meeting
(AGM). Meetings are online (using Zoom) and typically last around 2 hours.
2. Participate with the other board members in discussion and decision
making regarding the overall direction of the Little Angels Blood Cancer
Fund.
3. Prepare Little Angels quarterly financial reports to the Board based on
The Ottawa Hospital Hematology Financial Report.
a. Review hospital reports on the financial status of the Little Angels
operating account;
b. Report to the board quarterly on Little Angels financial status.
c. Establish an understanding of Little Angels financial status and bring
this understanding to the board to help inform discussions and decision-
making.
4. Track the income and expenditures related to our bank account. Make
payments from the Little Angels bank account e.g.
a. Payments for the website
b. Transfers to The Ottawa Hospital Foundation
5. Provide a year-end financial report to the board.
6. Prepare annual CRA Registered Charity Information Return (T3010) and
associated documentation required to maintain our status as a registered
charity.

How will this opportunity benefit the volunteer?
The volunteer will gain an understanding of how our small charity works - how it raises funds, decides how those funds will be used to further its goals (helping patients experiencing financial difficulty during treatment for a blood cancer), how we report to Canada Revenue Agency to maintain our charitable status, and how we manage expenditures to ensure we can hep patients in the future.
How will the organization benefit?
The charity requires a treasurer to manage its finances and maintain its charitable status.
Volunteer location:
We meet online using zoom.
