Ottawa Dog Rescue is looking for a committed and knowledgeable Treasurer to join our Board of Directors. While CPA credentials are not necessary, a strong grasp of non-profit finances and financial statements is essential. In this crucial position, you will help ensure funds are managed efficiently to support our dog rescue efforts. The ideal candidate will bring experience in accounting and share a passion for animal welfare.

Key Responsibilities:
▪️Manage the organization’s budget, track expenses, and prepare financial reports.
▪️Oversee and process donations, grants, and other revenue streams.
▪️Prepare and present financial statements to the Board of Directors.
▪️Ensure compliance with Ontario charity regulations.
▪️Assist with financial planning, forecasting, and cash flow management.
▪️Conduct journal entries and balance cash on a monthly basis.
▪️Manage accounts receivable, ensuring timely collection from partner rescues.
▪️Oversee accounts payable, including vet fees and volunteer reimbursements.
▪️Maintain accurate records for all cash outflows.
▪️File annual returns to the CRA, including the T3010 Charity Return and HST rebates.
▪️Prepare annual financial statements.
▪️Address inquiries from the Board, donors, and volunteers regarding financial matters.
▪️Monitor financial balances to ensure sufficient cash flow for expenses.
▪️Attend monthly meetings with senior management and the Board of Directors.

Required Skills:
▪️Experience as a Treasurer or in financial management, particularly within non-profits or charities.
▪️Strong understanding of accounting principles and proficiency in financial software.
▪️Familiarity with Ontario charity regulations and tax filings.
▪️Experience with gift in kind tax receipting rules and requirements.
▪️Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
▪️Strong communication and leadership abilities.
▪️Ability to work independently while maintaining accountability.
▪️Proactive approach to improving processes and efficiency.
▪️Commitment to reliability and responsibility in managing the organization’s finances.

This is an unpaid volunteer opportunity.
Directors and Coordinators are expected to put in a minimum of 6 hours per week and be responsive to emails within 36 hours.
