Vice-Chair, Board of Directors

Description
We are recruiting a vice-chair for the Board of Directors to help drive Foodsharing Ottawa towards its strategic vision. This is a four-year term position with the possibility of a two-year extension. As a board member, you are required to attend monthly meetings (at least nine per year, currently by Zoom) and maintain current knowledge of the organization, its policies, processes, programs, bylaws and articles of incorporation.
In addition to the basic director’s responsibilities, you will be expected on a case-by-case basis to assist, co-chair, collaborate or substitute for the board chair on the following:
– Planning and chairing board meetings, including setting the agenda
– Planning and running the annual general meeting
– Performing board administration and goal setting
– Planning, scheduling and tracking board initiatives including committee work
– Coordinating operations support with the Operations team
– Managing Foodsharing Ottawa’s budget
– Special projects or tasks assigned by the chair
– Strategic planning
The Foodsharing Ottawa director’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:
– Embodying the organization’s mission, values, and culture
– Securing funding for the organization
– Recruiting and onboarding new board members
– Advocating for the organization
– Taking part in fundraising efforts
– Participating in board meetings and committees
– Conducting special projects or tasks assigned by the chair
Requirements:
– 15 years of work experience in management or executive roles
– At least 3 years of board experience with a nonprofit organization
– Demonstrated experience in starting, building or expanding a business or nonprofit organization
– The passion and energy to lead Foodsharing Ottawa towards its strategic vision
– Interest in food skills, food waste reduction, food insecurity or environmental sustainability
– Strong written and verbal communication skills
– Able to commit an average of at least 15 hrs a month to the role
– Be available for board meetings typically held monthly on Thursday evening at 6:30pm
