Overview:
The Jack Purcell Recreation Association is seeking enthusiastic and committed individuals to join our board of volunteers. As a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering community engagement and promoting recreational activities, the board plays a vital role in guiding the organization’s strategic direction, ensuring financial sustainability, and maintaining its mission to enhance the well-being of the community.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning:
Collaborate with fellow board members to develop and implement strategic plans that align with the organization’s mission and goals.
Provide input on long-term vision and objectives.
Governance:
Attend regular board meetings and actively participate in discussions on organizational policies, programs, and financial matters.
Contribute to the development and adherence to governance policies.
Financial Oversight:
Review and approve budgets, financial reports, and fundraising initiatives.
Monitor financial health and ensure adherence to financial policies.
Community Engagement:
Act as an ambassador for the organization, fostering positive relationships with community members, stakeholders, and potential partners.
Represent the organization at community events and engage in outreach efforts.
Fundraising and Resource Development:
Support and contribute to fundraising efforts to secure resources for the organization’s programs and initiatives.
Identify potential funding sources and partnerships.
Advocacy:
Advocate for the organization’s mission and goals within the community and with relevant authorities.
Stay informed about community needs and trends affecting recreational opportunities.
Committee Participation:
Serve on committees or task forces as needed, bringing expertise and a collaborative spirit to achieve specific goals.
Ethical Conduct:
Act with integrity and in the best interest of the organization.
Avoid conflicts of interest and adhere to the highest ethical standards.
Qualifications:
Commitment to the mission and values of the Jack Purcell Recreation Association.
Experience in governance, strategic planning, finance, recreation and leisure, or related fields.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Knowledge of recreational programs and community development is an asset.
Previous board experience is desirable but not mandatory.
Requirements:
Live in the Centretown boundary of:
North — Ottawa River
East — Rideau Canal
West — Bronson Avenue
South — Queensway
Time Commitment:
Board members are expected to commit to regular, quarterly board meetings, annual AGM, committee work, and additional time as needed for organizational events and activities. The typical time commitment is approximately 1-3 hours per month, with exceptions for committee members, the executive and any volunteering for special events.
