Volunteer English-to-French Translators
Description
Working with the Twice Upon a Time Communications Lead, the volunteer English-to-French translators will help promote Twice Upon a Time’s services to Ottawa’s francophone community.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
● The translation of a wide variety of outreach and promotional written materials into French, including but not limited to:
o Website text;
o Newsletters and emails;
o Social media messages;
o Materials for pop-up bookstores; and
o Grant applications.
Text requiring translation will vary in length but most documents will be between 200-1,000 words. Audiences for the translated materials will include children, families, potential donors, public and non-profit partners, and funders. Translators should be capable of adapting messages for different platforms and audiences.
The ideal volunteer will have experience working as a translator and/or writing in French in a professional capacity. Volunteers should have strong organizational skills, be self-motivated and able to meet short deadlines.
Estimated time commitment: 3-5 hours per month, but the workload will vary throughout the year

En collaboration avec la responsable des communications d’Il était deux fois, le traducteur bénévole de l’anglais vers le français aidera à promouvoir les services d’Il était deux fois auprès de la communauté francophone d’Ottawa.
Les tâches et responsabilités comprennent, sans s’y limiter, les éléments suivants:
● La traduction en français d’une grande variété de documents écrits de sensibilisation et de promotion, y compris, mais sans s’y limiter :
○ Le texte du site Web ;
○ Bulletins d’information et courriels ;
○ Messages sur les médias sociaux ;
○ le matériel pour les librairies éphémères ; et
○ les demandes de subvention.
Les textes à traduire sont plus ou moins longs, mais la plupart des documents comptent entre 200 et 1 000 mots. Les destinataires des documents traduits seront les enfants, les familles, les donateurs potentiels, les partenaires publics et non lucratifs et les bailleurs de fonds. Les traducteurs doivent être capables d’adapter les messages à différentes plateformes et à différents publics.
Le volontaire idéal aura une expérience professionnelle de la traduction et/ou de la rédaction en français. Les volontaires doivent avoir un grand sens de l’organisation, être motivés et capables de respecter des délais courts.
Durée estimée de l’engagement : 3 à 5 heures par mois, mais la charge de travail variera tout au long de l’année.

The volunteers will work remotely to further develop written communication skills and gain experience writing for a variety of platforms and audiences. The volunteers will contribute to Twice Upon a Time’s mission of getting books into the hands of Ottawa children and families.
