Website developer
Description
As one of primary tools for communicating with the public and stakeholders, a modern and highly functioning website is essential. Our current website (www.cpaws-ov-vo.org) is several years old, not functional and is prone to crashing. We are therefore seeking a volunteer with web experience to help develop a new site, based on a template being used by other chapters of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society. We have started a process of redrafting much of the content, to be ported to the new site, but as a first step, we would like to see a new site in place, even with limited information, content can be added as it is created. Since we are a bilingual organization, a mirror French site would also need to be created with functionality to toggle from one language to another. We would also appreciate the volunteer train staff and volunteers on how to make basic edits, like adding an event or making simple corrections to text. We are hoping to have the new website in place by early fall 2023.
How will this opportunity benefit the volunteer?
This project is a great way to gain professional experience and to build a portfolio. It is also very flexible and all of the work can be carried out from home or another remote location without coming to the physical office, and you will be helping to protect the Ottawa Valley's lands and waters.
How will the organization benefit?
As noted, the website is our primary means of communication and the current site has become a liability for the organization, it is not reliable and requires constant repairs, a new site will help us better serve the community and better reflect our organization as a credible, trusted, knowledge-based organization worthy of support.
