How will this opportunity benefit the volunteer?
As full- or part-time volunteers, interns receive more in-depth animal husbandry training and advanced skills. Interns receive training to care for all species at the centre. Volunteers also learn about many aspects of wildlife rehabilitation, such as wildlife identification, natural behaviours, animal handling, animal health monitoring and environmental enrichment.
Interns also receive advance training in animal handling, nutrition, care of critical patients, diagnostic procedures, fluid therapy, medicine administration, pain and wound management, and releases.
Interns receive an honorarium to help cover incidental expenses. With a common passion for animals and team camaraderie, interns can expect to make long lasting friendships.
How will the organization benefit?
Being a labour intensive operation, RVWS could not fulfill its mission without the help of wildlife rehabilitation interns. As full- or part-time volunteers, interns provide daily continuity to care for hundreds of animals, including critical care patients.
